Asylum Seekers Housing Network (ASHN) supports asylum seekers who have fled their native country due to war, torture, political or religious persecution, and are in the process of applying for protection in the United States.
Not being permitted to work or receive government assistance, the lengthy asylum process leaves applicants in a vulnerable housing and social situation.
ASHN program provides the following:
A small stipend for food, medicines and other living expenses
Stable temporary housing at RHHP
Social services from Asylee Women Enterprise (A.W.E.) or Episcopal Refugee and Immigrant Center Alliance (ERICA)
Through this collaborative support, the asylum seekers are prepared to move into a more permanent housing situation once they receive their work permits.
Since ASHN and RHHP began in 2003, approximately 100 asylum seekers have moved through the program to jobs and more permanent housing.
